Volleyball Rules Summary

NUMBER OF PLAYERS
Corporate volleyball is six-a-side with four possible substitutes.
A team can play with a minimum of four players.
Mixed teams must have a minimum of two females on the court at all times.

SUBSTITUTES
Substitutes can be made:
1) to replace an injured player
2) by rotation at the service

DURATION
Each week a team will play a match consisting of three x 8 minute games.
Teams will change ends after each game and at half time in the third game.

COURT SIZE
Court size is 9 x 18 metres.

PLAYER POSITIONS
There are no set player positions for general play.
At the serve three players are at the net and three players are at the back of the court.
Players must maintain their positions in rotation.

SERVING
Play starts with a serve. Each player has two serves (regardless of win or loss of point) then the serve alternates to the other team.
When a team regains the serve players rotate clockwise one position giving every player a chance to serve.
The ball must be served into the opposition’s court without the ball touching the net or one of your players.
All serves must be underarm. No spiking on return of service . The server must not step over the line.

DURING PLAY
Each team has a maximum number of three hits to get the ball back over the net without letting it touch the ground.
A player cannot hit the ball twice in a row. A ball can be played rebounding off the net. The ball can only be hit with a part of the body above the waist.
Players may not touch the net or put any part of their body under or over the net.

SCORING
Scoring shall be continuous, ie. both the serving and receiving teams can win the point.

TEAM CAPTAINS ARE REQUIRED TO KEEP THE SCORE AND CALL THE SCORE AFTER EACH POINT IS SCORED.

FORFEITS
If your team cannot play on the day, please phone the forfeit hotline on 0403 957 065.
Registering your forfeit allows us to arrange a substitute game for your opposition.

If your team is forfeited to, every effort will be made to arrange a substitute game and both teams will play for win, loss or draw points. If no suitable game can be arranged your team will receive forfeit points, plus one point for participation.

IMPORTANT: Studded football boots are not permitted. All players must wear shoes.
